Medical bariatrics is an approach that involves lifestyle changes through nutrition, exercise, and personal counseling. IRMC physicians assist patients in developing a personalized plan to lose weight and improve their quality of life. Research shows that even a 10% loss of weight in obese individuals can have a significant impact on overall health including improvement in bone health, cardiovascular, diabetes, and other serious conditions.
Medical bariatrics is for those who do not want surgery, don’t qualify for surgery, want or need help with weight management after bariatric surgery, or want surgery but have an insurance required medically supervised weight loss plan before becoming eligible to receive benefits for bariatric surgery.
